How to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the U.S.-China border crisis
China is planning to launch a major military exercise near the border, where it has been building up military forces in response to an increasingly assertive U.K. and U.N. presence.
In a rare public appearance at a military conference in Beijing on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the exercise, called the “Great Dividing Wave” and set for May, would test Beijing’s ability to control the border.
Xi said it was part of China’s “Great Silk Road” initiative.
China is building a “great wall” along the Chinese border to prevent the flow of illegal drugs, Xinhua news agency said, citing Chinese officials.
